In recent years the study of monumental brasses has attracted a new generation of scholars and in particular from postgraduate students examining, and questioning, their context as a source of historical study. At this one day conferences speakers will reflect on the iconography of brasses, including their design, function and composition, and also how they were used to promote the role of lineage and family in medieval England. Papers will also be offered on their role and place within the community and also examine their use in expressions of piety and salvation.
