SOUTH MIMMS
The church is noted for its connections with members of the medieval Frowyk family of London and Middlesex who were lords of the manor for three centuries. The French inscription brass to Henry Frowyk,[1386], is the earliest surviving in the church. The important brass memorial to Thomas Frowyk, [1448], and his widow, Elizabeth, together with their six sons and thirteen daughters, has recently been moved to the North (Frowyk) Chapel. Attendees
will be given an opportunity to appreciate the church, view the Frowyk memorials together with a further six 17th century brasses and important canopy monuments of comparable date.
The visit will include a series of short talks as follows:
The Frowyk Family of Middlesex and London by Jessica Freeman
Henry Frowyk’s Foundation Stone at the Guildhall Chapel, London by Nick Holder
Commemoration of the Frowyks at South Mimms by Jon Bayliss
The Brasses of South Mimms by Derrick Chivers
Arrangements have also been made for access to the nearby church at Ridge.
The building contains a fine early 16th century military indent, a wall painting
of St. Christopher and other medieval features which are of interest.
